D-U-N-S® Guide
Updated 3 months agoUnderstanding What It Is and How to Get One
To publish your mobile app through Vegacart on the Apple App Store, your business needs to be enrolled in the Apple Developer Program. A key requirement for this enrollment is obtaining a D-U-N-S Number.
This guide will walk you through what a D-U-N-S Number is, why it’s needed, and how you can request one.
What is a D-U-N-S® Number?
The D-U-N-S Number is a unique nine-digit identifier for businesses, issued by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B). Apple uses this number to verify your company’s legal entity status when enrolling in the Apple Developer Program as an organization.
Your business must be registered as a legal entity (such as a Private Limited Company, LLP, or Corporation). Apple does not accept sole proprietors, DBAs, or fictitious business names for organization-level accounts.
Why Do You Need It?
Apple requires a D-U-N-S Number to ensure that your business is eligible to enter into legal agreements under its Developer Program. Without it, you won't be able to complete your enrollment as a ‘Company/Organization’,a step necessary to launch your mobile app through Vegacart.
How to Check or Request a D-U-N-S Number
Before you request a new number, check if your business already has one using Apple’s D-U-N-S lookup tool. Many legally registered businesses are already listed.
If your business is listed:
You're all set, go ahead and complete your Apple Developer Program enrollment.
If your business is not listed:
You can submit a request directly through Apple’s tool. You’ll be asked to enter the following details:
-
Legal entity name
-
Headquarters address
-
Mailing address
-
Contact information
Once submitted, Apple will pass this info to Dun & Bradstreet, who may contact you for additional details, such as:
-
Type of business
-
Number of employees
-
Business registration documents
This process is free and usually takes about 5 business days.
Important: Legal Entity Requirement
If your business is currently registered as an individual or sole proprietorship, you will need to upgrade your business status to a legal entity (like a private limited company) to proceed. Apple does not allow individual accounts to publish apps through third-party platforms like Vegacart.
If you've already enrolled with Apple as an individual, contact D&B to upgrade your D-U-N-S status. You can reach them here or by calling (855) 444-3091. After updating, it may take up to 14 business days for Apple to reflect your new status.
What to Expect Next
-
After submitting your D-U-N-S request, allow up to 5 business days for D&B to process it
-
Once issued, it may take another 1 to 2 business days for Apple to receive your updated information
-
After that, you can proceed with your Apple Developer enrollment as a Company/Organization
